California: ITIN Driver's License Guide
Requirements
- • Valid ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)
- • Proof of California residency
- • Proof of identity (foreign passport accepted)
Required Documents
- ITIN letter (CP565 or CP567)
- Foreign passport (valid or expired less than 10 years)
- Two proofs of residency (utility bill, bank statement)
Steps
- 1 Gather all required documents
- 2 Visit your local DMV office (appointment recommended)
- 3 Complete application form DL 44
- 4 Pass the written knowledge test (36 questions, need 30 correct)
- 5 Pass the vision test
- 6 Pay the $41 application fee
- 7 Schedule and pass the driving test
Important Notes
- California issues AB 60 licenses for undocumented residents with ITIN
- AB 60 licenses cannot be used for federal purposes (e.g., boarding flights)
