Connecticut: ITIN Driver's License Guide
Requirements
- • Valid ITIN (SSN not required for Drive Only license)
- • Proof of Connecticut residency
- • Proof of identity and date of birth
Required Documents
- ITIN letter (CP565 or CP567)
- Foreign passport (valid or expired within 2 years)
- Two proofs of Connecticut residency (utility bill, bank statement, lease)
- Foreign birth certificate with certified English translation
Steps
- 1 Gather all required documents
- 2 Visit a Connecticut DMV office (appointment recommended)
- 3 Complete the application for a Drive Only license (form R-229)
- 4 Pass the written knowledge test (25 questions, need 20 correct)
- 5 Pass the vision test
- 6 Pay the $40 application fee
- 7 Hold learner permit for 120 days with 40 hours supervised driving
- 8 Schedule and pass the road test
Important Notes
- Connecticut's Drive Only license law allows all residents to apply regardless of immigration status
- The Drive Only license cannot be used as federal identification or for REAL ID purposes
