Florida: ITIN Driver's License Guide
Requirements
- • Proof of lawful presence in the United States (ITIN alone is not sufficient)
- • Social Security Number
- • Proof of Florida residential address
- • Proof of identity and date of birth
Required Documents
- Valid passport with US visa, I-94, EAD, or I-797 approval notice
- Social Security card
- Two proofs of Florida residential address (utility bill, bank statement, lease)
- I-20 or DS-2019 for F-1/J-1 visa holders
Steps
- 1 Verify your immigration status qualifies for a Florida license
- 2 Gather all required documents
- 3 Visit a Florida DHSMV (Department of Highway Safety) office
- 4 Complete the driver license application
- 5 Pass the written knowledge test (50 questions, need 40 correct)
- 6 Pass the vision and hearing tests
- 7 Pay the $48 application fee
- 8 Schedule and pass the road skills test
Important Notes
- Florida requires proof of lawful presence and a valid SSN — an ITIN does not substitute for SSN
- DACA recipients with a valid EAD and SSN may apply for a temporary license
- Non-citizen licenses are marked "TEMPORARY" and expire with immigration status
