Kansas: ITIN Driver's License Guide

Requirements

  • Proof of lawful presence in the United States (ITIN alone is not sufficient)
  • Social Security Number
  • Proof of Kansas residency
  • Proof of identity and date of birth

Required Documents

  • Valid passport with US visa, I-94, or EAD
  • Social Security card
  • Proof of Kansas residential address (utility bill, bank statement, lease)
  • I-20, DS-2019, or DACA approval notice (if applicable)

Steps

  1. 1 Verify your immigration status qualifies for a Kansas license
  2. 2 Gather all required documents
  3. 3 Visit a Kansas DMV (Division of Vehicles) office
  4. 4 Complete the driver license application form DL-1
  5. 5 Pass the written knowledge test (25 questions, need 20 correct)
  6. 6 Pass the vision test
  7. 7 Pay the $24 application fee
  8. 8 Schedule and pass the driving skills test

Important Notes

  • Kansas requires proof of lawful presence and a valid SSN — an ITIN does not substitute for SSN
  • DACA recipients with EAD and SSN can apply for a restricted driver's license
  • Restricted licenses for non-citizens are valid for one year and must be renewed annually
