Minnesota: ITIN Driver's License Guide
Requirements
- • Valid ITIN (SSN not required for standard driver's license)
- • Proof of Minnesota residency
- • Proof of identity and date of birth
Required Documents
- ITIN letter (CP565 or CP567)
- Valid foreign passport
- Foreign birth certificate with certified English translation
- Proof of Minnesota residency (utility bill, bank statement, lease)
Steps
- 1 Gather all required documents
- 2 Visit a DVS (Driver and Vehicle Services) exam station
- 3 Complete the application form PS2001-DL
- 4 Pass the written knowledge test (40 questions, need 32 correct)
- 5 Pass the vision test
- 6 Pay the $32.25 license fee
- 7 Pass the road test ($20 fee)
Important Notes
- Minnesota Driver's License for All law allows residents to apply regardless of immigration status
- Standard license issued — same as any other Minnesota license
- Written test available in multiple languages including Spanish and Somali
