Mississippi: ITIN Driver's License Guide

Requirements

  • Social Security Number required (ITIN not accepted)
  • Proof of lawful presence in the United States
  • Proof of Mississippi residency
  • Proof of identity and date of birth

Required Documents

  • SSN card (ITIN is not accepted)
  • Valid US passport, birth certificate, or immigration documents
  • Two proofs of Mississippi residency
  • I-94, EAD, or I-551 for non-citizens

Steps

  1. 1 Obtain an SSN — ITIN is not accepted in Mississippi
  2. 2 Gather identity, lawful presence, and residency documents
  3. 3 Visit a DPS (Department of Public Safety) driver license station
  4. 4 Complete the application form
  5. 5 Pass the written knowledge test (30 questions, need 24 correct)
  6. 6 Pass the vision test
  7. 7 Pay the $14 permit fee
  8. 8 Pass the road skills test and pay the $24 license fee

Important Notes

  • Mississippi requires proof of lawful presence — an ITIN alone is NOT sufficient
  • Non-citizens with valid immigration documents receive limited-term licenses matching their document expiration
