Missouri: ITIN Driver's License Guide

Requirements

  • Social Security Number required (ITIN not accepted)
  • Proof of lawful presence in the United States
  • Proof of Missouri residency
  • Proof of identity and date of birth

Required Documents

  • SSN card or W-2 showing SSN (ITIN not accepted)
  • Valid immigration documents (I-94, EAD, I-551, I-797)
  • Proof of identity (passport, birth certificate, or consular ID)
  • Proof of Missouri address (utility bill, bank statement)

Steps

  1. 1 Obtain an SSN — required for all Missouri license applicants
  2. 2 Gather all required documents
  3. 3 Visit a DOR (Department of Revenue) license office
  4. 4 Complete the application form DOR-4317
  5. 5 Pass the written knowledge test (25 questions, need 20 correct)
  6. 6 Pass the vision screening
  7. 7 Pay the $10 permit fee
  8. 8 Pass the road test and pay the $20 license fee

Important Notes

  • Missouri requires proof of lawful presence — an ITIN alone is NOT sufficient
  • Non-permanent residents receive a temporary license that expires with their immigration documents
