Nebraska: ITIN Driver's License Guide

Requirements

  • Social Security Number required (ITIN not accepted)
  • Proof of lawful presence in the United States
  • Proof of Nebraska residency
  • Proof of identity and date of birth

Required Documents

  • SSN card (ITIN is not accepted)
  • Valid immigration documents (I-551, I-94, EAD card)
  • Valid passport or certified birth certificate
  • Two proofs of Nebraska residency (utility bill, bank statement)

Steps

  1. 1 Obtain an SSN — ITIN is not accepted in Nebraska
  2. 2 Gather all required documents
  3. 3 Visit a Nebraska DMV office
  4. 4 Complete the application form
  5. 5 Pass the written knowledge test (25 questions, need 20 correct)
  6. 6 Pass the vision screening
  7. 7 Pay the $29.25 license fee (5-year license)
  8. 8 Pass the road skills test

Important Notes

  • Nebraska requires proof of lawful presence — an ITIN alone is NOT sufficient
  • Temporary lawful presence holders receive a limited-term license
