New Hampshire: ITIN Driver's License Guide

Requirements

  • Social Security Number required (ITIN not accepted)
  • Proof of lawful presence in the United States
  • Proof of New Hampshire residency
  • Proof of identity and date of birth

Required Documents

  • SSN card or document showing full SSN (ITIN not accepted)
  • Valid passport with US visa or immigration documents
  • Proof of NH address (utility bill, bank statement, mortgage)
  • Birth certificate or unexpired foreign passport

Steps

  1. 1 Obtain an SSN — required for all NH driver license applicants
  2. 2 Gather all required identity and residency documents
  3. 3 Visit a NH DMV office
  4. 4 Complete the application form DSMV 505
  5. 5 Pass the written knowledge test (40 questions, need 32 correct)
  6. 6 Pass the vision test
  7. 7 Pay the $50 license fee (5-year license)
  8. 8 Pass the road test

Important Notes

  • New Hampshire requires proof of lawful presence — an ITIN alone is NOT sufficient
  • Non-citizens receive a license with expiration tied to their authorized stay
