New York: ITIN Driver's License Guide
Requirements
- • Valid ITIN (SSN not required for standard license)
- • Proof of New York residency
- • Proof of identity and date of birth
Required Documents
- ITIN letter (CP565 or CP567)
- Foreign passport
- Foreign birth certificate with translation
- Two proofs of NY residency
Steps
- 1 Gather required documents (6 points system)
- 2 Visit a DMV office
- 3 Complete form MV-44
- 4 Pass the written test (20 questions, need 14 correct)
- 5 Pass the vision test
- 6 Pay the $12.50 fee
- 7 Hold learner permit for minimum 5 hours supervised driving
- 8 Schedule and pass the road test
Important Notes
- New York Green Light Law allows all residents to apply regardless of immigration status
- Standard (non-REAL ID) license does not require SSN
